The Silence after Rain - Brian Pearce

Rainrise
and the birds
are off to battle
There's love and hate
and prices
to be paid
I didn't think I'd live
to see the morning
but I did
and now it's here
and I'm afraid
There are bombers in my head
come to destroy me
Kamikaze pilots
in my brain
The flowers cough their pollen
It's sad to see them dying
I just want you to love me
for my mind

Sunshine hurts my eyes
but that means nothing
I didn't think I'd see it again
It's good to be alive
and wake up smiling
It's so good to hear the silence
after rain

Jet planes
overhead
as I lie sleeping
They buzz inside my mind
like filthy flies
and a zillion stars make up
each frail nightmare
over friends with gentle hands
and gentle eyes
I want to say I'm sorry
I failed you
You gave me the reason
to believe
There's nothing in the world
worth more than friendship
There's nothing worse in hell
than to deceive

Sunshine hurts my eyes
but that means nothing
I didn't think I'd see it again
It's good to be alive
and wake up smiling
It's so good to hear the silence
after rain
